Faustino Bernadett and Dr. Martha Molina Bernadett continue to make a meaningful impact in medical education and academic philanthropy through their contributions to strengthening the humanities aspect of medical education.

Recently, Faustino “Tino” Bernadett and Dr. Martha Molina Bernadett were recognized in a follow-up message from leadership within the McGill University community, specifically the McGill Osler Society, following an information session where they were invited to speak about their contributions to student research and medical humanities.

The session highlighted the Bernadetts’ continued dedication to enriching medical education through both academic engagement and philanthropic support.

The Bernadett Family International Medical Student Scholarship Program

A key focus of the McGill Osler Society information session was The Bernadett Family International Medical Student Scholarship Program, an endowed initiative established by Faustino Bernadett and Dr. Martha Molina Bernadett.

The scholarship reflects their long-standing commitment to global education and the development of future medical leaders. Through this endowment, students are supported in gaining essential clinical and humanistic experience, helping bridge the gap between scientific training and compassionate care.

This initiative builds on the Bernadetts’ broader philanthropic mission to strengthen educational pathways in medicine, research, and leadership development.

Advancing Medical Humanities Through the Bernadett Family International Medical Student Scholarship

There was strong interest in the essay contests discussed during the session, and many questions were raised afterward. These opportunities are part of The Bernadett Family International Medical Student Scholarship Program, which supports interdisciplinary medical humanities research across areas such as the history of medicine, literature, visual arts, philosophy, anthropology, and medical sociology.

In 2025, recipients of the Bernadett Family International Medical Student Scholarship Award included Reda Hessi and Nikki Sheffield. Their projects explored diverse medical humanities topics, including the historical development of pharmacology, archival research on Florence Nightingale’s personal writings, and the evolving understanding of mental health within medical history. Their work reflects the scholarship’s emphasis on interdisciplinary inquiry and the integration of humanities into medical education.

In 2026, recipients Samia Cherkaoui and Tova Tachau continued this tradition of scholarly excellence. Their projects focused on neurosurgical reform during wartime trauma care and the emotional experiences of medical students in 19th-century anatomy education. These studies involved extensive archival research in the United Kingdom and demonstrate the scholarship’s ongoing commitment to fostering globally engaged, research-driven medical humanities work.

The McGill Osler Society leadership emphasized their gratitude for the Bernadetts’ generosity and vision, noting that their contributions will continue to shape student opportunities for years to come.
