The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California, has long stood as a leader in marine science, conservation, and public education. One of its supporters is Faustino “Tino” Bernadett, a retired physician, whose deep commitment to giving back continues to shape the institution’s future. Along with his wife, Martha Bernadett, Dr. Bernadett plays a pivotal role in supporting the Aquarium’s mission and vision.

A Transformative Gift: The Molina Animal Care Center

One of the most impactful contributions by the Bernadett family was a $2 million donation made in partnership with Dr. Mario J. Molina, Martha’s brother, and other family members. This transformative gift supported the Aquarium’s expansion and helped establish the Molina Animal Care Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to animal care, rescue, and public education.

More than just a veterinary center, the Molina Animal Care Center symbolizes the family’s collective passion for the ocean, science, and conservation. Their generosity continues to help the Aquarium lead critical efforts in marine health and sustainability.

About the Aquarium of the Pacific

The Aquarium of the Pacific, founded in 1998, is a nonprofit located on six acres in Long Beach. It’s home to over 12,000 animals and more than 100 exhibits that showcase the different ocean habitats of the Northern Pacific, Southern California/Baja, and the Tropical Pacific.

Around 1.6 million people visit the Aquarium each year. It offers a variety of educational programs, hands-on exhibits, and conservation efforts that help people of all ages learn about and connect with the ocean. In 2019, the Aquarium opened the Pacific Visions wing, a new 29,000-square-foot building that includes an immersive theater, an art gallery, and interactive displays focused on environmental topics.

The Aquarium is also recognized for its eco-friendly practices, including tracking its greenhouse gas emissions and earning awards like LEED Platinum and Two Green Globes certifications for its sustainable buildings.

A Look Back at the Blue Whale Gala + Whale’s Tail After Party — And What’s Ahead

On June 28, 2025, the Aquarium hosted its signature fundraising event: the Blue Whale Gala, followed by the lively Whale’s Tail After Party. It was an extraordinary evening of celebration, science, and philanthropy. Guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner beneath the iconic blue whale, along with silent and live auctions supporting the Aquarium’s conservation work.

The after party continued the celebration with tastings from local restaurants, a hosted bar, live entertainment, and hands-on conservation activities. The event was a great turnout and helped raise important support for the Aquarium’s work.

Upcoming events include:

  • First Wednesdays Speaker Series

  • Shark Lagoon Nights

  • Midsummer Nights

  • Día de los Muertos Celebration

  • Sea Fare

  • Autism Family Morning

  • Holiday Treats for the Animals

These events help bring people together around science, culture, and ocean awareness, values the Bernadett family supports.
