He was an advisor to the Director of Health Services and served on the Board of Supervisors for the organization, a role he gladly took on in addition to his many other endeavors.

Leadership: A Natural Role

It’s no wonder that Dr. Faustino “Tino” Bernadett would proudly take on the role of advisor to the Director of Health Services and take a seat on the Board of Supervisors for the Los Angeles County Commission of Hospitals and Health Care Services. He provided counsel regarding various matters that impact patient care policies and programs of the Los Angeles County hospital system. Ensuring patients get the most personalized, compassionate care possible is an idea that is near and dear to Tino’s heart.

His leadership roles did not stop with the LA County Commission. Dr. Faustino Bernadett served as president of his own pain-management clinic for more than 15 years before retiring from the clinic in 2013. In recognition of his work, the Consumers Research Council of America named him one of America’s Top Physicians in Pain Management.

Dr. Tino Bernadett was licensed to practice medicine in the state of California and was a member of the American Medical Association. He also sat on other boards as well. As a UC San Francisco Board Overseer, UCSF Campaign Donation Supporter, and creator of a UCSF scholarship in honor of his father, Faustino Bernadett, Sr., Bernadett Jr. has long served as a leader in the community.

Giving Back

Over the last 16 or so years, Dr. Bernadett’s family foundation has worked with more than 2,500 organizations and schools, donating more than 5.5 million books to low-income families. It has also hosted various workshops and programs for educators and families. Working closely alongside community-based organizations, the foundation partners with preschool programs, clinics, churches, schools, family service organizations, and civic organizations that serve low-income and at-risk families.

Medicine and healthcare are certainly a big part of Faustino Bernadett’s life and legacy. In addition to formerly serving as director of health services and the board of supervisors for the Los Angeles County Commission of Hospitals and Health Care Services, he established the Faustino and Martha Molina Bernadett Presidential Chair for Education in the UCSF School of Medicine. As a UCSF Campaign Donation Supporter, he remains heavily invested in the future of medicine and how it can solve the world’s most critical health issues.

During his tenure on the board, UCSF spearheaded a $5B fundraising campaign with the goal of solving the most complex human health problems. To date, this is the largest-ever university campaign that focuses exclusively on driving innovation in medicine.

Dr. Bernadett grew up wanting to be just like his father, who he watched run a successful practice as the only Spanish-speaking family doctor in Chico, California. His dad also volunteered his services to Mexico’s needy.

Dr. Bernadett is truly selfless when it comes to being a leader in the community. Check out more of his work and achievements on his website
