The Long Beach Century Club honored Faustino Bernadett with the Bob and Nell Kariger Award at its annual Sports Night Banquet on June 15, 2026, at The Grand Long Beach, recognizing his longstanding service to the greater Long Beach sporting community.

The award recognizes Dr. Bernadett’s longstanding involvement in youth development, amateur athletics, and community health throughout the Long Beach community.

A Career Rooted in Medicine, Leadership, and Service

Faustino “Tino” Bernadett has spent much of his career in healthcare, serving as both a physician and healthcare executive. A graduate of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, he began his medical career practicing anesthesiology in Southern California before later specializing in pain management.

Over time, his work expanded beyond patient care into healthcare leadership. He earned an MBA and worked with physicians, medical groups, and healthcare organizations as they adapted to changes within the healthcare industry. His experience has included both clinical practice and leadership roles, giving him perspective on the challenges facing patients, providers, and healthcare systems.

Deep Commitment to Community Health and Youth Development

In addition to his work in healthcare, Faustino has been involved with a number of community organizations and initiatives in the Long Beach area.

He has served as a lead sponsor of the Run Seal Beach 5K and 10K for more than eight years, helping support one of the region's longstanding community running events. He is also a longtime supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, organizations that align with his belief in the importance of providing young people with opportunities, encouragement, and positive role models.

For Dr. Bernadett, supporting community health has included not only healthcare-related work, but also involvement in programs and organizations that help young people learn, grow, and succeed.

Founding The Molina Foundation

Together with his wife, Dr. Martha Molina Bernadett, he co-founded The Molina Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing disparities in access to education and health resources.

The foundation honors Martha’s parents, who came to Long Beach as educators in the 1950s and reflects a shared commitment to expanding opportunity for underserved communities through education, literacy, and health equity.

Recognition from the Long Beach Century Club

In announcing the award, Long Beach Century Club Vice President and Board Member Brad Rudy highlighted Dr. Bernadett’s impact on local athletics and youth programming.

“This award is based upon your stewardship of the Seal Beach 10K event and your support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach,” Rudy said in a letter to Bernadett.

The Century Club, a nonprofit founded in 1957, raises funds in support of amateur athletics and youth sports programs across Long Beach. Over the years, the organization has contributed approximately $2.5 million to local programs supporting student-athletes and community sports initiatives.

A Personal Philosophy of Mentorship and Belonging

Tino’s approach to service is shaped by his early experiences in youth development programs such as 4-H, where he learned the value of responsibility, leadership, and community belonging.

“When I was young, I learned what it meant to belong to something larger than myself,” he said. “I learned it through 4-H — a program that taught me responsibility, leadership, and the simple lesson that the time you put in becomes the foundation for everything you become. But honestly, that recognition belongs to the people who poured into me when I was a kid.”

He continues to emphasize the importance of mentorship and youth support in shaping future generations.

“When I look at the young people in my community, I see the same potential. I see kids who just need someone to believe in them, to give them tools, patience, and time. That’s what mentorship is. It’s the reason I’ve spent so much of my life supporting youth development.” said Dr. Bernadett.

A Distinguished Record of Service and Recognition

Faustino Bernadett’s contributions have been widely recognized across academic, civic, and nonprofit communities. He has been named one of UCSF’s “Top 150 Alumni of the Last 150 Years” and has received honors including the California Conference for Equality and Justice Humanitarian Award and the 4-H National Council Distinguished Alumni Medallion.

His service has extended to leadership roles including the UCSF Foundation Board of Overseers, the Los Angeles County Hospitals and Health Care Delivery Commission, the Smithsonian Latino Center, and the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation.
