Boys & Girls Clubs Mission
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach is to help all young people, especially those who need support the most, reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
The Club provides a safe and supportive environment where youth can learn, grow, and build character. Through various programs and activities, members have the opportunity to develop important life skills and build a strong foundation for their future. Whether before school, after school, during the summer, or on Friday nights, the Club offers a welcoming space where young people can connect, learn, and have fun.
Meet the 2025 Youth of the Year Finalists
This year’s finalists represented resilience, determination, and leadership—each sharing powerful stories of growth and ambition.
Elizabeth Miranda – 2025 Youth of the Year
A senior at Cabrillo High School, Elizabeth Miranda stood out as an exceptional student-athlete with a passion for art and healthcare. As a top performer in volleyball and basketball, she earned 1st All Team honors in the Moore League (2024–2025) while maintaining straight A’s in her final year.
Inspired by her parents' struggles with addiction and homelessness, Elizabeth transformed adversity into motivation. Determined to become a nurse practitioner and attend UCLA, she channels her resilience into both her academic and athletic pursuits. As the eldest of eight siblings, Elizabeth exemplifies leadership, responsibility, and perseverance.
Her strength of character, commitment to service, and dedication to her future earned her the distinguished title of 2025 Youth of the Year.
Anjelica Ragland – Finalist
A junior at Poly High School, Anjelica Ragland has been a proud member of the Eastman Boys & Girls Club since third grade. Over the years, she has emerged as a thoughtful and proactive leader, creating a snack pantry to support fellow teens and revitalizing the Cooking Club to strengthen engagement among members.
Deeply passionate about mental health awareness, Anjelica hopes to establish safe spaces where youth feel heard, understood, and supported. With a strong interest in creativity and design, she plans to attend the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and pursue a career in interior design.
Her dedication to service, leadership, and personal growth made her an inspiring finalist in this year’s competition.
Dilan Perea – Finalist
A senior at Poly High School, Dilan Perea found direction and confidence through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach. As a first-generation Mexican American student, he once questioned whether higher education was the right path for him. With guidance and encouragement from Club mentors, he was accepted to multiple universities and now plans to major in mechanical engineering, with aspirations of becoming an industrial manager.
In addition to his academic goals, Dilan is launching his own car detailing business, demonstrating entrepreneurial drive and determination. He credits the Club for helping him discover his purpose and believe in his ability to succeed.
