
Faustino Bernadett attended the 100th Osler Banquet as a special guest which took place on November 6, 2024, at the Faculty Club at McGill University in Montreal, Canada with over 130 attendees.
Guylaine Beaudry Trenholme, Dean of McGill Libraries, highlighted Osler's legacy in founding the Osler Library. She then announced a $2 million donation from Mario Molina and the Molina Foundation to establish the Molina Family Head Librarian endowment, supporting the library's role for medical students and historians.
Lesley Fellows, Vice-President (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, thanked the Molina Foundation and emphasized the importance of medical education in fostering empathy and resilience.
Dr. Rolando Del Maestro, Honorary Osler Society President, and his wife Pam reflected on preserving Osler’s legacy. To celebrate the 100th Osler Banquet, they generously donated a five-volume set of nearly 600 Leonardo da Vinci drawings from the Royal Collection to the Osler Library.
Dr. Christopher Feindel, Osler Society alumnus and past president, announced the winners of the Pam and Rolando Family William Osler Essay Awards: Jessica Matschek, Elly Htite, and Ana Cuerrier. He also gifted each winner a copy of his father’s book, The Anatomy of the Brain and Nerves Tercentenary Edition 1664-1964.
The Molina Foundation Research Awards ceremony and oral presentations took place the day before with Dr. Molina in attendance. The awardees were Meygan Brody, Reda Hessi, and Amina Moustaqim-Barrette.
At the Banquet, Dr. Molina highlighted the Osler Library's role in connecting medical students with the humanities. He noted that the library’s resources, combined with the guidance of mentors, align perfectly with Osler's vision of educating students in the history and methods of medical science.
Learn About the McGill Osler Society
The McGill Osler Society, McGill’s oldest student society, was established in 1921. Inspired by Sir William Osler, the Society enriches the education of McGill students in medicine and other disciplines through lectures by distinguished guest speakers and discussions on the Humanities and Social Sciences in Medicine. It also focuses on cultivating philanthropy among medical students and offering experiences that help them grow into well-rounded physicians.
Tino Bernadett’s Connection to the Osler Society
With over 20 years of experience as an anesthesiologist in Long Beach, California, Dr. Tino Bernadett’s background in medicine made his involvement with the American Osler Society a natural fit.
Dr. Bernadett’s experience has led him to serve on the Board of Curators and as Chairman of the Finance Committee for the American Osler Society. Tino is also the American representative for the McGill Osler Society.
Throughout his career, Faustino Bernadett has focused on helping patients manage pain during and after medical procedures. He began his medical journey at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree.
